Why is R&B music not really associated with rythem and blues?

R&B stands for Rhythm & Blues.

It is associated with Rythem & Blues but R&B is regarded as a slant on the original and is drifing away from the classical Rythem & Blues.



Like all music through time people find and create their own versions of standard formats and this is just another case of it.

same as why rock and roll is not associated with rock and roll today, or country music is not associated with Country music today.



they have changed, evolved, or de-evolved, depends on how you look at it. there has been no R&B since the late 70s, it's more rap,Bass,Pop music than R&B, the name is the same, but the artist have changed there styles.

same with Rock and roll, that was dead by 1968, and todays rock has nothing at all in common with what rock and roll was about, they did try giving it new evolved labels, such as rock, and alternative rock, but it is not rock and roll, and should have it's own name now.



Country to has evolved so much, that most anything after 1985 is so far removed from " original country music" , that it's more of a child of alternative rock bands, who wear cowboy hats, which where trashed by original country artist in the early 1960s

they should call the new form of R&B something else, just like automakers who use the same names for cars make 40 years ago, and they are nothing at all alike in shape or style.

R&B covers a vast territory - it doesn't mean the same thing to all people. Ask some people what qualifies as rock and roll and you will get many different answers. I think "Hollywood" is the worst at representing what "rock'n'roll" music really is, especially the older movies... the newer ones actually use rock music in their soundtracks, but some of those older movies version of what constitutes "rock'n'roll" is downright laughable.

It's because the R&B 30 years ago was associated with Rhythym and Blues, but R&B has a new meaning today Rhythym&Bass, which associates with most of the rap and hip hop artists

They commonly do, but it's a common misunderstanding.



Years ago, I was mislead by the whole R&B abbreviation and was lead to believe that R&B was the glorious Rythm n blues.



God, was I disappointed when I first laid eyes on Beyonce and the likes!





I have the same thing when I tell people I love rythm n blues. I usually get answers like; "oh, so you like Akon and Beyonce etc etc...?"

I know whach you saying. Chuck Berry said that, "What we black folks called rythm'n'blues, white folks called rock'n'roll"....the reason for that is that rock'n'roll branched out into rock etc. And rythm'n'blues continued changing as a style of its own (Motown etc.) Current r&b is a product of that tranformation. But i think that it is completely uncomparable to Motown in the days of Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin...it is of much lower grade..which leads to other questions.....
