I have a Martin Guitar, that was used, just curious is there a way to find out more about it's history, like on the Martin website or something?

Thanks.

The serial number inside the sound box should tell you a lot.

P.S. You may have to contact a Martin dealer with the serial number. Not sure that you can get any information off their website.

Next time you buy a used guitar from someone tell them "Show me the GuitarFax." But seriously, you never mentioned whether it is an acoustic or electric guitar. Martin is more know for their acoustics, but I don't want to make assumptions (they make pretty mean electrics also). Martin should have a main web page or site that you can peruse along with a company e-mail address and perhaps a Home Office phone number. That should get you started. If the guitar has had some work done on it, unless it was done directly through the manufacturer, I doubt you'll be able to find records of said repair or work.

Your serial number will tell you the year of manufacture. The model # (if you don't know what model you have) is above the serial number. This link lists serial numbers by date-

Edit:

The only records (if any) of any repairs, would be with the shop/luthier who did the work. If Martin performed any repairs, they would have records, but few people would send a guitar that new to Martin for repairs. You ought to be able to see any repairs with your own eyes.

Guitar logs are not kept for any repairs. Its not like a car warranty. Not even Martin, Gibson or whatever. The luthier who last touched it is the only to give you an answer as far as he remembers. It won't tell you who handled it beforehand.

The serial number is on the neck block.

Check this site. The log is quite accurate according to what I have when I worked at Martin.

If it's only a couple years old, then what information are you hoping to find? If it's not at least 20 years old then there's not much reason to research it. Just ask a Martin dealer. Go to Matrin's web-site and click on "contact us" to send them an e-mail and ask your questions. For a 2 year old guitar, all it's information is in it's serial number and model number.

In that price range I would check some other brands, unless you are really determined to have a famous label on the headstock. Guitar manufacturers tend to cover only a portion of the overall price/quality range, at least very well, and the guitars for which Martin is famous are their high-end solid-wood ones. I haven't been impressed with their plywood lower end models. P.S. KrudKutter makes excellent poiints. Check out Yamaha's solid-top guitars like the FG720S and 730S for sure. Seagull has an excellent reputation for no-frills guitars built well out of quality materials. Guitar Center's site is a good place to look, but it is best to go to a store and pick out your guitar in person. Oh, and in your price range, if the ad copy does not say SOLID spruce, mahogany, etc., it isn't.

if its only a couple years old, there's not much to find out. Look up the model number on the Martin website, read reviews on harmonycentral.com and that's about it. Or take it to a luthier and ask him to tell you what he sees.
